The Latest News from Viper Motorsports

February 10

Well we wrapped up the first leg of Florida / Georgia Speedweeks with a runner-up finish at Screven Motor Speedway. Kyle started the night by winning Group B qualifying and heat #3. Drew the 3 for the feature, took 2nd from Covert and got to Shane's bumper, just could not find a way around. Congrats to the Shane Clanton on the win.

My wife and I want to thank Barry, Lance and the entire Barry Wright Race Cars operation. First Class. These ICON cars were spot on all weekend and ever since we put the first one on the track a week ago to test. Some of the greatest people that anyone could ever work with in motorsports.

Ultimate Series - Round 13
3rd

On Saturday evening, We raced at Modoc Speedway for round 13 of the Ultimate Series.

Kyle started the night by setting 2nd quick time and placed himself starting 3rd in the main event.  Running 2nd for most of the race, Kyle took a shot at overtaking race leader Ross Bailes with 10 to go, but the track was mostly 1 lane and just could not stick the pass and settled for 3rd. Congrats to Ross Bailes and Joey Counter on a good race.

September 15

Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex  -  Saturday, September 15th
The Big Kahuna
WINNER 1st

On Saturday evening, We raced at the Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex. On Friday, we were cancelled and everyone was frustrated. We contemplated heading to another track for Saturday and once cooler minds slept on it, at 10am Saturday, we decided to just stay, and my wife and I were going to do as planned and enjoy our Wedding Anniversary weekend where we planned too, at Deep Creek Lake.

Kyle started the night by setting fast time and redrawing the 5 for the dash. Ended up 4th in the dash and that's where we would roll off for the feature. Kyle jumped to 2nd on the opening lap and on a lap 10 restart, trying to take the lead, would slip back to 3rd drifting up 1&2. On the 19th circuit, Kyle would make the move on the top to go from 3rd to 1st but the pass for the lead was negated by a caution and he would restart 2nd. On the following start, Kyle would slide in front going into turn 3 and lead the final 15 circuits for his 3rd Big Kahuna championship. We believe he is the only driver to have ever won 3 of them.

Congrats to Matt Cosner and Kyle Lear for a great race. Two class acts and enjoyable to race with anywhere on any night.

I know everyone was frustrated and unhappy Friday night, our team being the same. But the track did a nice job getting the race track ready to race Saturday and the surface was perfect and racey all night long, from hot laps to the end.

A huge shout out goes to our partners at M Teats Transport. They did a lot of work Thursday evening into Friday to get our hauler all set to go race this weekend. Could not do it without great people like the Teats family and their love for racing.

September 8th

Screven Motorsports Complex

22nd – DNF

On Saturday evening, Kyle started the night off by setting 5th quick in group A and ran 6th in the group qualifier to start 11th for the feature. Kyle would charge from 11th to as high as 5th, but a mishap on lap 23 would end out night with a bent RF suspension. We are returning to Screven Motorsports Complex on Friday, November 20th for the Ultimate Series finale.

2nd

On Friday evening, Kyle started the night off by setting fast time and establishing a new track record at Oglethorpe Speedway and earned the pole. Kyle led the early stages of the feature, and eventually would end up 2nd when the checkered flag flew. Casey Roberts would slip by on lap 10 and lead the rest of the way. In the closing laps, Kyle would run down the leader and make one last charge, but came up just short.

Port Royal Speedway & Dog Hollow Speedway
ULMS Late Models
5th & WINNER 1st

Being off from Ultimate Series sanctioned races this weekend, Viper Motorsports ventured to Port Royal and Dog Hollow to take on the ULMS Late Models.

On Saturday evening, Kyle would win B-Main #1 and have to come from the 17th starting position and would charge to a 5th place finish.

On Sunday evening, Kyle would start the A-Main from the 12th position, took the lead on lap 10 and would sail to his 2nd win of the 2018 season.

I want to take a moment and congratulate the 2 tracks we raced at this weekend for giving us race tracks we could race on pass all over the surface. Job well done Port Royal and Dog Hollow. Congrats to the ULMS for putting on 2 great shows. When we get opportunities, we will be looking forward to racing with your series when the schedule permits.

August 11th

Hagerstown Speedway
35 lap Clash for Cash / Red Nininger Memorial
WINNER! 1st

Team 99v made one of our final appearances in the Northeast for the season this past Saturday evening at the Hagerstown Speedway for the 35 lap Clash for Cash / Red Nininger Memorial. We timed in 5th quick, ran 2nd in heat #2 and started 4th on the grid. When the green dropped, we fell to 5th, but on lap 4, Kyle moved up the race track and passed the top 4 by the end of lap 20 and drove off to the teams "far over due" 1st win of the season.

Viper Motorsports returns to Ultimate Series action on Friday, August 17th at Crossville Speedway in Tennessee.

Thank you to all of the great Sponsors we have. Viper Risk Management Group, Pancho's Racing Products, Pro Power Racing Engines, Chiarelli Paving, Sable Construction, Jack Pears & Associates, M Teats Transport, ML Performance, Killarney's Publick House, LB Express, Fryeco Fabrication & Custom Bodies, Friese Transportation, Earnhardt Technologies Group, Strange Engineering, Penske Racing Shocks, Pancho's Suzuki, TWM, Auto Glass Experts, F&W Grafix, PAC Racing Springs, Creekside Auto Sales, Dynamic Drivelines, Locomotives, Hoosier Tire, JPS, Schaeffer's Racing Oil & Lubricants, MLR Fabricating and Accu-Force.

July 9th

We went to Kentucky to race with the Ironman Series on Friday, June 29th. After timing in 9th, ran 3rd in the heat, came from 10th to 5th in the A-Main.

On the 30th at County Line, we set fast time in group B, sat on the front row, and took the initial lead, but the start was wiped out due to cars spinning in turns 3 & 4. On the next re-start, it all went to garbage when the track threw the green and the yellow lights were still on and Kyle Hardy and Brett Hamm who started 2nd and 4th were back to 6th and 7th by the time they left turn 2 because they didn't go, not knowing the flagman was throwing the green with the yellow lights on. We ended up having to settle for 7th. Track was all but 1 lane and just a complete shit show and just very lucky that the whole field didn't get junked up because of the mess on the start that should have been called back.

On Tuesday, July 3rd, we went to dog hollow for a draw show. No passing in heats and track rubbered in the first few laps of the feature, so that was a shit show as well. On top of that, on the lap 8 restart, we were in 7th and the scorers (who don't have live scoring or transponders) somehow put us back in 9th. Its magical that you can be 7th on the track, have a caution and lose 2 spots under the caution. Started 11th and finished 6th.

Tentatively - Next up for Viper Motorsports and Team #3v is the Bedford Speedway on 07/13/2018.

Thank you to all of the great Sponsors we have. June 24th

Southern Allstars Series / June 24th - Senoia Speedway

We ventured over to Senoia Speedway after Blue Ridge cancelled for the Ultimate Series. Kyle began the night by setting fast time winning his first Quick Time Award of the season, which gave him lane choice for the front row of the feature. Kyle led the early stages of the race before giving way to Michael Page. Around the mid-way point, Kyle reeled Page back in and momentarily took the lead back, and would eventually settle for 2nd. A great run at a very tough race track with a great group of racers. Job well done.

Next up for Viper Motorsports and Team #3v is the County Line Speedway on 06/30/2018 with the Ultimate Series.

USA 100 - $20,000

After breaking a transmission in qualifying, the team thrashed to change stuff so we could make it out for our heat. We ran 3rd in our heat and started 10th in the feature. We ran 7th. Nothing more to say than the driver did an awesome job wheeling the car. Congrats to Tyler on winning the 20k from 9th and Brandon Overton on running 2nd from 12th.

Hoping for better conditions this coming Saturday as the next series stop at Fayetteville.

Viper Motorsports #3v competed at Senoia Speedway with the Southern Nationals this past weekend.

On Friday evening we timed in 3rd quick, ran 3rd in our heat and lined up 13th for the feature, and it was a quick one as Scott Bloomquist hit the inside retaining wall entering turn 3 on the opening lap, spun right in front of us and we had no where to go. It ended our night as we didn't know that it was just cosmetic damage, but the night was done.

On Saturday nights $10,000 to win show, we timed in 8th, ran 3rd in our heat and started 12th. We got up to 7th and the track took rubber on lap 28 of 60 and we all just raced in a train line for the last 32 laps.
